John Lennon changed his middle name from Winston to Ono in 1969, referring to himself from then onwards as John Ono Lennon. But according to Ray Coleman in his 1984 biography, official documents referred to him as John Winston Ono Lennon as he was not allowed to revoke a name that had been given at birth.
